The High Pro Glow

Welcome! The topics introduced in this blog will vary wildly. Here, you will find a lot of odd topics that are here to help somebody in need. I post off-beat information, hard to find history, & stuff that is otherwise seldom regurgitated in our modern place. Sit back & find something interesting. Comment if you have a need or suggestion.

Thank you for crossing paths!

Parrot Skycontroller 1 Update Procedure

This information pertains to the Red, Blue, Yellow, and Black Edition Skycontroller 1 units. The SC1 is a great control unit...stick with it...it is worth your time.

Skycontroller 1 Connection Problem?

Usually, this is a symptom of a fresh kit or just after updating FreeFlightPro. The SC1 just needs it's firmware updated. It only needs it one time and the process is easy...just follow these instructions.

The SC1 firmware must be updated manually using a USB thumbdrive. Small capacity is better...definitely under a 32gb, 16gb preferred, formatted to Fat32 (most are already formatted this way.) Some thumbdrives just don't work..so try another.

The most recent SC1 firmware version for use with Bebops is v1.7.4 ..Parrot updated their website in October 2018 and posted a bad update file...they know it but have refused to fix it. I have a good copy of the file HERE.

If you have tried updating the SC1 using the file from Parrot's website...it could/may have bricked the SC1 and stalled during the installation. The SC1 can still be fixed and I have compiled instructions how to unbrick it HERE.

A clean firmware update installation attempt sould go like this...

--Connect a full battery to the SC1.
--With a PC, copy the update file to the thumbdrive's root directory making sure the filename "nap_update.plf" has not changed.
--SC1 Powered OFF. Insert the thumbdrive into the SC1''s USB port.
--Center all buttons and sticks and do not touch them during the installation process. **Optional HDMI Viewing**
--Power ON the SC1 and watch the light show tick away. The update file is recognized automatically.
--Power OFF the SC1 and remove the thumbdrive.
--Complete. It should be updated, verify "v1.7.4" in FreeFlightPro's controller settings.

**Optional HDMI Viewing**...Adding an HDMI cable from the SC1's HDMI-Out port to an HDTV before powering up everything allows you to watch the installation progress bar on the TV.

Congratulations! Your Parrot Skycontroller 1 is ready. Now, go out and enjoy!
